It was another routine trip to the doctors. Sam was getting used to them by now. He was actually enjoying learning about all the things a father goes through the first time they have a child. "I'm always ready." Even more so now that she wasn't doing it alone. With Agatha she had gone most of this alone. With Sam she was ready for anything because she didn't have to do it alone.

Laying back on the table with her obviously pregnany belly exposed Selene laid quietly while the doctor measured how large her belly was and listened to the beat of their babies heart.

"I'm feeling great actually, sleeping much better. The nausea has passed."

“All good signs” The doctor said while moving the pad around her stomach. Sam wasn’t watching the screen, instead he was behind it watching Selene and the doctor. It was just as well as he probably wouldn’t be able to make out anything on the sonogram. “And here we are...” the sound of a strong healthy heart filled the room. Sam hadn’t noticed he stopped breathing if only to silence the atmosphere so he could hear their child’s heart.

Sam let his hand find Selene’s and started to play with her fingers. Like usual he loved to feel the ring on her finger and the soft touch of her smaller fingers. “That’s a strong heart beat.” He smirked now moving around to see the screen and place himself at the side of his wife.

The doctor smiled. “I’m not surprised it’s so strong. Two healthy parents.” He paused for moment looking at the screen. It was still a mess of black and white images Sam couldn’t figure out so he waited for the doctor to interoperate. “Would you like to know the sex of your baby?”

Not only could they hear the heart beat, with the sonogram on her belly displaying the image on the screen they could see the tiny organ beating. It looked like the fast flutter of butterflies wings. Selene couldn't help but to worry, just as she had with Aggie, if the baby growing within her was a monster like she was.

With Sam's hand in hers she smiled and looked at him. "No." They wanted to be surprised right? Then she glanced a the screen again. "Yes...no...maybe!" AH! She couldn't decide!

"It's up to you Daddy. Do we know or do we wait?"

Sam’s eyes were fixed on the screen as they watched their child’s heart beat as if it was the first time. It was beautiful. Words couldn’t explain what it was like to look at something the two of them had created. Something so perfect. Sam had no fear or worry if the child took on vampire attributes or anything from Selene. Selene wasn’t a monster, she was perfect in Sam’s eyes just as this baby will be to him ( ... )
