When I started working as a cashier, more people noticed me because I was always up front. One such case is a little boy that comes in all the time. He came through my line with his grandmother and brother one night and said that I was very pretty and that he hoped to see me again ( Read more... )

I wonder about that stuff all the time. I'm so curious about what makes people tick sometimes when I'm sitting down. I think I have a pretty good sense at figuring it out, too.

I don't like mothers like that--so controlling and concerned with their own identities. I'll never be that kind of mom. I think I'd be more like the grandmother.

The thing with people, is that it really may be impossible to know, unless you ask - I would be afraid of poking into someone else's business, but it all depends.

If you see the person you think is their mother being really nasty when she comes, the next time the boy comes with just his grandmother, why don't you casually ask if that other woman was his mother? If you're at the point now where he hugs you all the time, then asking about that would be socially all right, I think.

I'm glad that you seem to have a nice aura around kids though - every once in a while, I'll sometimes look into a crowd of people, and when I see parents taking care of their kids, I wonder what it would be like for me, when I have them too. Will they be well behaved, what kind of personalities will they have, etc.

One time a boy said I was a girl. Just "YOU'RE A GIRL!!" I just yelled back, "NO, YOU'RE A GIRL!!" His dad made him apologize, and I said, "Okay, now I feel a lot better."

lol @ long hair at work.

I've had this experience, though, where I meet some customers and their families and I can just kind of piece together what their lives must be like. Nothing to judge them on, because it's not like you can really know, but it's still kind of interesting.

Yeah, I know what you mean. It's just like trying to read people. Try it enough and eventually you'll get something right.
