I would say that, without The Duty, you might find it difficult to continue.

Yeah, I'd echo that sentiment. If someone (don't ask who) took your Purpose away, what would you be?

One of the features of life is that it keeps finding reasons to go on.

Amazing what you can lose.

Don't know where that leaves you, of course.

I heard one strange parable in the childhood... about that the Death has disappeared from the world once... It was very terrible tale, I should say...

*sighs*
It is really terrible tale.
Once the Death (I do not remember for what reasons I was a little child when I has heard this story) has disappeared from the world.
First people were pleased, because all of them were afraid of Death. They exulted and celebrated, but then... gradually... they have felt, that...
The old men who have been confined to bed, could not die, fatally wounded men suffered from a pain, but the Death did not come to give them rest...
In some days the world was filled with cry and moamings of sufferers which waited Death, but it did not come...
*shudders*
It was very terrible story...

Yes, Death is a necessity, as long as we are neither invulnerable or immortal - I takeit that your people are neither?

Do you remember how Death came to return?
