Also, I feel like I must have seen a different movie from the rest of fandom, because I thought the characterization was all around great.

I will post more coherent thoughts when it is not 3 am. :p

There's definitely two sides of fandom right now and I think they will always disagree on that. But I love the movie as well and thought that the characters were all in character. So maybe we saw the same movie after all ;)

GOOD. I definitely want to play with the new stuff (and also sometimes ignore it since, you know, that's what ambiguous 'verse is for.) :D

I'm really glad you enjoyed it. :D I mean, it's not my favourite and there's a lot of stuff in it I'm not wild about, but I'd much rather talk to people who loved it than people who didn't. So woo! :D

I...it might be my favorite? I don't know yet. I guess I always feel like my favorite things are the ones I create myself to fill in the canon gaps, so I'm not sure if I really have a favorite movie in the canon. (That might not make sense. It's 4 am...)

Yeah I kinda get that. You fill in the blanks yourself and forget the film didn't tell you those things.. I am super glad you loved it so much. :D if I ever need boundless enthusiasm I'm just going to chat to you for a while. :)

I think I will wait until Saturday, when I'm seeing it again, to decide which side of the fence my feelings for this film will come down. My rational thoughts are already aligning:

There were things I liked about it a lot, and things I thought were shoe-horned in. Maybe when the 3-hour director's cut comes out, some of those will make more sense... All in all, I thought as a standalone film, it was pretty cool. As part of the developing MCU arc, I thought it was great in some aspects, and pretty definitely huh?-inducing in others.
