I just realized I didn't make my yearly "books I read" post for 2014. I only finished 93 books last year - 7 short of my yearly 100 books goal. But here are a few that were interesting ( Read more... )

Ready Player One: perhaps the best book of 2012 IMO. Found a copy while we were in Maine and just loved it. I think it would make a great anime series.

Book Thief: I haven't read this, just saw the movie, and then only once. I guess I didn't realize that the POV character was Death. I'll have to pick it up and read it and watch it again.

City of Thieves sounds interesting, I've always thought the Siege of Leningrad was one of the most amazing stories of WW II.

You might want to check out Reamde by Neal Stephenson. It's a big book about what happens when Chinese hackers run afoul of Russian criminal gangs. I thought it had a Tom Clancy vibe in its epic scope (his early work, I stopped reading him ages ago).

Man, I wish I had the time for two books a week. I started working full-time again in November and my non-work or school-related reading is eating almost all of my reading time.

I really do spend way too much time reading :) Luckily I can get a lot done while listening to audio books - cleaning, doing dishes and laundry, some grading, brushing my teeth, walking, driving, weeding, etc. It's amazing how much time we spend doing all this stuff, and I just have an audio book ready on my phone at all times. My public library is great; I can download audio books right from their website through the Overdrive app, up to ten at a time, for three weeks each. I'd say I get through 15-25 books a year this way. It's the only way I'd get so much "reading" done while working 50-60 hours a week.
