I have a large and mysterious bruise on my knee.

It's been almost two months since I posted something. I've been neglecting my reading because it's been too hot. I've been absorbing movies instead, so many movies, too lazy to turn pages. But I thought I'd throw out a few things about some TV I've been watching but maybe never mentioned.

Daredevil - Finished it, great show, good fight scenes. A ( Read more... )

Strange and Norrell is worth sticking with. It really hits its stride by the third ep.

Humans has been very good. That's one we always do catch up on now, as it clashed with S&N.

It looked like the sort of thing that would be fun to marathon rather than wait every week for. I'm glad so many people seem to think it's good.

I might catch up later, I think it's one of those programs I want to know where the whole thing is going before I commit.

That "supernatural" element in Daredevil might actually be the comics rearing their head - depends on what you're talking about. Matt's almost supernatural abilities re: hearing, "sight" etc are all comics-based. Stick and his group are comics and a ton of people think Madame Gao is The Crane Mother (Iron Fist enemy; Iron Fist is going to be another Netflix show in the coming year or two.)

Uh, I really like Matt Murdock. /o\

I don't really know much about the Daredevil comics, I know that he fights ninjas but I didn't know if there was a Supernatural element to his storylines (re magic and underworld type stuff.) There just felt like there was a sinister underlayer to the city that I was quite enjoying. Lots of subtle stuff unsaid and dark alleys and weird eldritch children. Having a quick look through the comics lore - that doesn't seem to be a thing though.

But the show has potential for expansion, and I know we have Iron Fist and Jessica Jones coming.

So much research to do.

Humans is definitely worth watching, I'm really enjoying it (and not just for the shallow Colin Morgan aspect, although I have to admit that was what made me watch it in the first place).

I watched the first episode of Strange and Norrell and gave up. I kept forgetting to watch it and meaning to i-player it later, and then realised I'd gone about three or four weeks without actually making any attempt to catch up, so decided this was clearly a sign I wasn't that bothered about watching it after all. :-(

I want to watch Daredevil *sooooooo* much!!! But it doesn't appear to be on any channel that I have access to. If enough people rave about it I might have to just take a chance and get the dvd boxset without having actually watched it at all before I buy.

It was nice to see Colin Morgan again! But I was having the same problem with Humans as you had with Strange and Norrell, not a bad show but no enthusiasm to catch up.

Yes. I'm always wary of getting the boxset of something I haven't seen, no matter how much people rave about a show. I don't always love stuff that becomes super popular. But sometimes they're cheap in a sale and I'll have a stab - usually a few years after everyone else fell in love with it.

I've only seen a few episodes of Penny Dreadful, but from what I did see has me so intrigued. Basically, aside from Eva Green being absolutely glorious in her role, the setting is just so gorgeously done. I'm all about that style and era and from what I saw they do it so well. I really need to catch up on the show because I hear some pretty interesting things have happened.

I completely agree about Hannibal, that show continues to astound me with how grotesquely beautiful everything is made. The show is basically visual porn and I love it. This season has me so intrigued because the setup has been very different from the previous seasons (and I honestly cannot wait for the Red Dragon storyline) and I'm just hoping that another place will pick up the show because I want a fourth season, dammit.

I'm really enjoying Dark Matter. I never read the comics, but I am intrigued with the plot and what is happening and I'm loving the ensemble cast. I have yet to see Killjoys, though.

I haven't seen Sense8 yet, but from what I hear is that ( ... )

Eva Green is so perfect in Penny Dreadful. It was like the show was made just for her to be amazing and crazy in. They're not afraid to steal everything from the era, and the casting is so good.

Yes, I've never seen anything filmed like Hannibal, it's so lovely to watch even when horrible things are happening. Season 3 has started off so amazingly I honestly don't know how anyone could survive season 4, but I want it! I know a little bit about the Red Dragon storyline, but I'm mostly unspoiled about what's coming up.

I've really missed having a sci-fi show with an ensemble cast, and Dark Matter almost scratches that itch, I just wish it did...a bit more? I'm hoping it will stretch a bit and become a bit more twisty.

I saw something about the Swedish version, I was tempted to try it and it surprised me when adverts for Humans started appearing on TV, because I was briefly confused. I think I shall catch up later if the series holds together well.

Welcome back! \o/

Yay for new tv shows! The heatwave is here now as well, I know what you mean by being it too hot to read. I can't wait for it to be over. I need normal summer weather, please.

I only watched the first episode of the second season of Penny Dreadful: I think it's a great show, but the first season was so dark and it kept triggering me to the point I had to listen to it like a radio show instead of watching it. Very unpleasant. Plus I thought the ending was way too rushed, considering the pace up to that point had been excruciatingly slow. I loved Sense8 but yep, the first couple episodes are really boring. You'll have to be patient for a while before things start happening, but once they all understand how their telepathy works, the pace quickens and it becomes a truly great show.

I loved Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell so so much, just like I loved the novel. The first two episodes are mostly a huge introduction to this world and characters, but once you get to episode 3 it's one fantastic episode after the other ( ... )

Thank you! \o/ It's definitely that part of Summer where you don't always want to read - or really do anything at all. So many heatwaves this year, it's no fun ( ... )
