Hey guys! Now that I’ve survived the 35 hour travel day from hell (after kicking a copious amount of glorious ass at Worlds), all the mods are together again. Which means party time it’s time to get down to business.

SHOULD ENTRANCEWAY MOVE TO DREAMWIDTH?This will be a discussion post with anonymous enabled (if you give us bullshit,* we’re at ( Read more... )

I'hm really lazy and would just rather stick with LJ. My opinion is mostly invalid, I suppose, since I don't use many of the features and stuff for things, and I don't have a paid account. So that's my 2 cents.

Despite LJ being a total failure with doing what they're gonna do I kinda wanna stick around. They might get better, they might not but../shrug. Getting everything set up again is a complete pain in the ass as I'm not familiar with Dreamwidth or any of that stuff but if the game moves I'll probably follow it regardless.

I looked at the comparison between the two and I'm kinda on the fence with this one. :\

Well, if it helps your decision, importing is the easiest thing ever. Lookit me! I thought it'd be a pain in the ass too, but it's actually really simple.

Oh here's an additional thought.
I have never really played in a community-based game, but I think I'd rather have eway stay journal-based. Even if it means more work for me learning DW as Kelsey suggested, I really like having this easy, semi-permanent archive of things I've done over on Mark's personal journal. It's also nice when I need to do a quick fact-check on some other character. Reviewing old conversations. Stuff.
I keep meaning to make a log post--I do keep a list in a Word file--but even if I had one, I would only have time to update it every now and then, and I think other players are probably the same.

Tl;dr for easier archiving I'd like things to stay journal based please. Option 4. Or option 1, if we stay. I'd be cool with that too.

^THIS^

I have to agree with Rachel on this one - I'd much rather keep the journal-based, just because it's really nice having something to reference, and having a pseudo-archive thing to go back to with all my convenient tags.

Just a thought: In terms of referencing old threads, all posts made a main community, if we went comm-based, would be marked with the series and name of the posting character (ex: Bioshock: Mark Meltzer), as well as those characters who respond (ex: reply: dean winchester), and all people with the ability to post in the comm would have the ability to create and add tags to the entries, the way they do in our current entrancelogs comm, so there wouldn't be an issue of having to wait for the mods to add the appropriate tags for use or waiting for us to tag the entries for you.

That being said, I personally agree with you that I like having my character's entries in my character's journal. I just want to let you and anyone else who is concerned about this know that the mods have thought about this concern and, in the event of switching over to a comm-based system, would make keeping track of and finding threads and entries within a community as easy as possible.

I vote that we move to Dreamwidth and I have a very slight preference towards going community-based if we do so. Moving to DW and remaining journal-based is just as well for me - my order of preference is 3, 4, 1 and lastly 2, although currently I'll stay with eway no matter what.

As for my thoughts in more detail:

[x] By now LJ has at least acknowledged that people are unhappy with the changes, but it's still a far cry from the kind of reaction I'd want in response to such overwhelmingly negative feedback. I strongly dislike the new style and it doesn't look like the core issues I (and many others) have with it are going to be fixed. Granted, only time can tell, but right now I'm genuinely unhappy with the way LJ goes about making changes and reacts to the concerns of its user base and I'm worried that this won't improve in the future.

I honestly can't say if a move will impact activity for the better, worse or not at all, but right now it seems that a sufficient quantity of people are in fact packing their bags or have already ( ... )
