That link is broken, it probably requires a certain previous POST action or cookie... but in general I think you could be right about cleaning although you may need to replace the gas generator assembly and you may also need to replace rubber parts such as O-rings. You can try cleaning stuff with carburetor cleaner (available from an auto parts store). Orifices and tubes can be cleaned using an old toothbrush or maybe fine brass or copper wire. Don't use steel wire in orifices, it's likely to do damage. Good luck!

mist? The only thing that you should get out of the system is vapor. You need to pump those things up to generate enough pressure in them so that when it exits it instantly vaporizes. If you fill them too high there is no room for the air to pressurize it. As the vapor burns it is used to heat the mantle. The mantles are radioactive and kick a lot of photons off when hot. That is why they are so bright compared to burning white fuel.

If you are using gasoline in it it better be rated for dual fuel or it will not work right.

Vapor in operating mode, but when lighting you have to burn a spray of some sort to get the vapor generator up to temperature. Second the recommendation to use white gas for testing & operation.

Did you take it apart to fix a particular symptom? If not, what I'd do is put it all back together, follow instructions to fill & light and observe what happens. Mine is quite reliable...
