This are a couple titles from the list of books I recommended to Melissa a while ago:
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time (Mark Haddon, excellent narrator) The Black Jewels Trilogy (Anne Bishop, awesome fantasy) Stranger than Fiction (Chuck Palahniuk, very odd short stories) Biting the Sun (Tanith Lee, neat writing and interesting story) The Crime Studio (Steve Aylett, really damn hilarious)
the glass castle by jeanette walls (autobiography....most interesting and playful/youactually care about the characters autobiography i've read....great character study....made me understand homeless people better)
the other bolyn girl by philipa gregory (fun sinful tale about henry the 8th and the bolyn family....read this one soon as the movie is coming out and they might mess it up)
His Dark Materials series by Phillip Pullman (includes the golden compass, the subtle knife, the amber spyglass) READ THESE NOW because the AMAZING LOOKING movie is coming out in december)
curious incident of the dog in the nightime (one of my all time favs....just read it....great voice)
the lovely bones by alice sebold (creepy but interesting....tough first chapter)
OMG i just remembered!!! ...The Time Travelers Wife by Audrey Niffenegger (best romance i have ever read....interesting and thought provoking)
Tipping The Velvet by Sarah Waters (naughty little lesbian tale of love and coming of age set to the backdrop of the 1800's theatre world in
Hahahahahha His Dark Materials.... I am so scared and excited for that movie... if they mess it up I am seriosuly going to cry. I love those books like nothing else except maybe lord of the rings....
Hey Kelso! I just read a great "inspirational"/mood-lifting book. It's called "Eat Mangoes Naked" by SARK. Also, "The Memory Artists" by Jeffrey Moore was a great book. It's about a character who has a condition labelling him as a hypermnesic synaesthete (someone who see words as explosions of color), who takes care of his mother who gets Alzheimer's relatively young in life. Good read. It's a thinker.

Somehow I just couldn't get into The Lovely Bones, even when I was 3/4 of the way through....
