If you stand at the big junction (by the entrance down to the metro) looking at the Moulin Rouge, there is a road leading just up hill a little. Just up there to the left was our hotel.

The sentiment still seems to be: Paris is great but would be better without Parisians. Not in your post, but i hear this from a lot of people. I think it should be known that this is no longer the case. Eons ago when i was 19, i went there and it was terrible and all the people there were nasty. But last time it was sooo nice and all the Parisians we met were nice starting from the guys at the Gare du Nord luggage counter who had a good laugh when i took 3 pairs of shoes out of my bag to get to le camping gaz. And then gave me a Prada bag to carry it around in (not allowed to leave gas in the storage, see).
