What are you reading?

As usual, I have no good excuse for not posting more often. However, what have you been reading lately?

Recently, I've been reading more because of some avid readers at work (currently reading Enduring Love on the train, next in line are The Time Traveler's Wife, Kite Runner, White Teeth). It's really great because I've only been thinking about ( Read more... )

Hi! You've been missed! :-)

Undine loves TIME TRAVELLER'S, I love KITE RUNNER --- one of the handful of books our monthly Book Group was unanimous on. I struggled to get into and through WHITE TEETH prior to just abandoning it despite it being a critic's darling.

I just finished rereading CATCHER IN THE RYE and SHOELESS JOE for our recent bookgroups. It gave me a new-found appreciation for RYE that I didn't have prior.

I also just finished Brian Keene's newest zombie novel DEAD SEA. Damn, I love his books. I consider his first novel THE RISING to be one of the finest horror novels written in the last 50 years, if that is your cup of tea.

As a former bookstore owner, I can gladly recommend some more classics, or contemporary fiction --- whatever you'd like. Just ask! :-D

Long time no see! Thanks for replying. Unfortunately, horror is not my cup of tea. Hmm...well, I have no shortage of fiction to read, but like I said, I was looking for new non-fiction, which I don't tend to read very often. Although I probably shouldn't be reading much of either since I have other things to work on for the next two months or so...

Undine & I read THE SUSHI ECONOMY and found that quite intriging.

I find it more difficult to recommend non-fiction, as it is so wide and diverse. That's where a good librarian or bookseller comes in! :-D

I just saw the trailer of Kite Runner, the movie. (Note to self: Get the book before the movie releases)

What non-fiction do you read?

I read mostly travel writing, books related to food (not recipe books though), books on India and US, books related to movies, but I don't stick to any particular genre as long as the book is interesting to read.

How do I find out things: Recommendations from people + Amazon's if-you-like-this-you-might-try-this + book lists + main stream media (NewYorker, Time, NYTimes, Economist) + (of late) Stephen Colbert's last 10 minutes when he usually interviews authors

Non-fiction related to art and design:

1. The Rape of Europa: I got curious about this book when I saw the trailer of the documentary based on this book. Might be interesting to check out. I'm yet to try it.

2. The design of everyday things: I was recommended this book by a friend who is very knowledgeable. I am yet to try, but the intro looks promising ( ... )
