Some Vague Revelation

May 17, 2006 11:40

I've been thinking alot about love. I realize I've never seen it. Most of you know I've never been in love, but I realized I've never even been around someone where I believed I saw them truly loving someone. Then I thought about it. I don't really think I've ever seen someone really feel something for anyone before. Maybe all this while I've been ( Read more... )

Love you say? christopher444 April 17 2006, 20:57:57 UTC
My personal opinion, which is simply that, MY personal opinion,

is that love does exist, but I believe in the end it is still selfish. What makes someone unique in this world is when their concept of themSELF extends beyond the "Chris Grace", or "Tyler", to incorporate a larger spectrum of who they are. The first step might be seeing oneself as a part of ones family, just as a leg in a part of ones body, part of the whole and therefore associated with it. Then perhapse extending to your sense of SELF to your close group of friends, to your significant other and in the case of "enlightenment" everyone and everything. In that case, love, hate, affection, apathy, devotion, etc. is still "seflish" but you are so expanded that it affects others.

that's funny. i saw all of this back when i used to do drugs.
i agree, and it's not that i totally believe there is no such thing as loving someone else. i just wrote this so people would think about it and develope their own opinion, and i think writing it this way allows for that. i was going to edit in something like this stating that, but this works too.

if you read the celestine prophesy, there is a few chapters that debate the ideas of love, and how it's really just a balance of power. it's sort of the way you were describing it, only a little more thought out [obviously, since it turned into a highly acclaimed literary title.] the thought is that love isn't so much a feeling, but more of an uplifting concept that just makes our inner self stronger.

i think you'd enjoy that book. it touches upon a lot of the ideas we used to talk about, and is presented in both a religious and scientific manner.

ps. i'm sorry i wasn't the girl you were hoping for, but i do miss chatting with you all the time. it was nice.
