This is comics, no one ever dies.

Yes yes yes. If it's not a trick, then there are countless ways to bring him back without zombifying him or things going badly wrong. (I can see it being a trick, even if Fury is a bastard for ruining those cards)

Also I ship Tony/Bruce so hard right now, GIVE ME FIC

OKAY. WOULD YOU LIKE PORN, SILLY FLUFF, MORE PORN, WITTY CRACK or BRILLIANT FRIENDSHIP FIC THAT IS A SERIES AND HAS HULK CUDDLING TONY?

(or, ravenspear really really really loves Tony/Bruce and has had most of a week to find and rec me fic for it before I saw the movie)

Cap in the future >>> Cap in the past. "I understood that reference!" CAP = CAS, Y/Y? I loved his scenes with Tony and I loved how they eventually started working together so seamlessly in traditional comics fashion.

Cap is the best, except they're all the best, so - I just love him. He's very much a fish out of water and having troubles adjusting, but when the hammer comes down he's got it. And Tony's got his back. And so on. Just. Yes.

Also I have SO MANY BLACK WIDOW AND ( ... )

Now I want fic where Phil is very pissed off at Fury for ruining his cards. :)

And YAAAAAY Tony/Bruce recs! thank you thank you I just want millions of fics of them being sciencebros, they were SO CUTE. <33333

And yessss they are all my favorite! I also ship everyone/everyone (despite my Steve/Tony preferences) but mostly I just like to see them all together and being awesome and being teammates and <3 <3 <3 ( ... )

Phil scolding Fury for that while he's recovering in the hospital - 'Sir I know you had reasons but - ' 'We can buy you replacements.' 'It wouldn't be the same.' and then they have a stare off and <3 <3 <3

I never got into the Nolan Batman movies for other reasons, but - that's part of the humor inherent with Batman. He takes things so seriously all the time, and is why the Joker works on many levels with him.

Then you go and read some of the old Avengers comics with Stan Lee and the narration - it's just so overblown and you know Lee's giving you the winknudge of 'this is ridiculous and isn't that fun?' and I think the movie captured that without going overboard with it. (No Iron Man on rollerskates, for one thing ( ... )

"But sir they were vintage!" XD XD XD

Batman is interesting because he really runs from Totally Serious to ridiculously silly, depending on what you're reading/watching. Biggest range I think for any superhero.

Hahaha I have a small collection of Silver Age comics panels that just make me crack up laughing. No way those are not on purpose. I'm glad the movies didn't go too silly, as that undercuts the character drama, but a little humor is a good thing.

That scene! I've seen some meta but no fic. Gyzym said it's basically Steve spewing "I MISS BUCKY AND YOU ARE NOT HIM" at Tony, which seems pretty accurate. Poor Tony though. Steve was trying to hurt, but I don't think he was trying to cut as deeply as he did.

Fic mutiny! WE REJECT YOUR CANON AND SUBSTITUTE OUR OWN.

SOOOOOOOO GOOOOOOOOOOD. NEED TO SEE IT AGAIN, LIKE, NOW. I was seriously tempted to just buy another ticket for the next showing immediately after I watched it the first time...

PHIIIILLLLLLLLLLL
I stand by my headcanon that it was all a trick to get the Avengers to stop fighting each other and start working together. Phil will pop up later I SWEAR TO GOD HE'D BETTER. This is comics, no one ever dies.I know, PHILLLLLLLLL :*( ("His first name is Agent"--dawwww, Tony...) but I sort of felt better than I might've because I was warned. Not spoiled, just had it pointed out to me (by someone who hadn't yet seen the movie) that it's Joss Whedon, they have to kill *somebody* to make the threat serious, and Coulson was just the most likely (but maybe Nick Fury?). Also that even though all the heroes have died and come back in comics, it doesn't always work the same for movies ( ... )

(Stupid lj comment character limits)

All in all I was very impressed at how they managed all the heroes -- I didn't think anybody got left out or anybody dominated, not even Tony (which could have easily happened with a lesser director). The structure was really interesting, end-loading all the big action setpieces, but while I usually get bored in action scenes there was enough emotional story to them that it really worked for me.Yeah, I'd read a thing beforehand that described the Avengers as potentially being "Tony Stark and Some Other Losers"--which, granted, I probably would have enjoyed anyway, but they really did an amazing job of giving screen time and reasons to care about all the heroes. Seriously, I am super impressed with how much they did in such a short time span. (The one I felt like I didn't get quite enough of was Hawkeye--since he was under Loki's control the whole first half, it took me a longer time to get to know him, especially since I knew next to nothing about him going into it.) I was also almost relieved ( ... )

Yeah there was a lot of worry about it essentially being Iron Man 3 -- even Joss says the first draft was too heavy on Tony -- but apparently they hired Joss specifically because of how he manages ensemble casts, and damn it paid off well!

the two scenes where they trick you into thinking she'll have the typical female character weaknesses, she turned it around and revealed her total control and manipulation of the entire situation. HERE IS THE SOURCE OF MY BLACK WIDOW FEELS, RIGHT HERE. Love her.

I don't know if I was surprised by the humor, but I was pleasantly surprised at just HOW MUCH there was. LOL yeah it's Joss (and Tony) so you know it'll be funny, but the jokes just kept coming in unexpected places. A lot of surprised laughter when some minor thing would pay off later in a bigger joke ( ... )

OMG 30 MINUTES I ASPLODE FROM THE EXCITE

I did wonder about deleted scenes--when the idea first occurred to me, I was torn between "ooh, there are probably some amazing deleted scenes just cut for length, yay!" and "Damn, I'm gonna have to wait far too long to see those! But I didn't look it up or anything, so I am SO EXCITE to know there's a full 30 minutes on the DVD, yay!!

Also, sure, rec me some Tony/Pepper (especially h/c). :D And if you find any good OT3 fics, definitely send them my way!

I LOVED WHAT THEY DID WITH BLACK WIDOW. I was so worried she was going to be another Competent Sexy Woman cardboard cutout, but she had backstory and vulnerability and emotions and snark and I loved her and it was great. Her and Hawkeye need a movie together. I don't care if they hook up or not, they need their own movie together ( ... )

BLACK WIDOW IS THE BESSSSSSST. I am amused at how everyone bitched about her costume and her sexiness and blah blah blah back in IM 2, but she turned out to be AWESOME X A BILLION in the movie. Strong female character who actually feels like a person and not a Strong Female Character (TM)? More of this please.

And yes I want Black Widow and Hawkeye pre-Avengers adventures! I think they made the right choice in not making a movie for them before, but now that everyone loves them it is the perfect time! Also so ScarJo and Jeremy Renner can hang out and be BFFs some more, they are too cute.

I felt like he packed a lot of genuine characterization into small spaces of dialogue, and I loved it. The fight scenes were actually funny and interesting (I find most fight scenes boring) This is why I already loved Joss Whedon, he does a great job of filling up all the gaps with character bits and comedy, there's no wasted space in his scripts. And I have never had any interest in the Hulk before, but I really want them to make some solo ( ... )

I might actually have to check out some Joss Whedon stuff. My old roomie really liked "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," but I couldn't stand the show because everything felt too forced-snarky. I've heard a zillion good things about "Firefly."

He's Chaos but Chaos isn't him.
ah I get what you're saying. I still think he was really underpowered for a god, but also it's not anything new--SF and fantasy movies with gods tend to treat gods as just "people with awesome superpowers" instead of literal embodiments of abstract forces. I know in "Thor" it was made pretty clear that the "Asgardians" were just aliens with cool powers (there's at least one line where someone references "those humans who think we're their gods"), but I don't know if Joss actively tried to stick with that interpretation or not.

I would strongly suggest trying Firefly. Great dialogue without being quite as self-consciously snappy as Buffy.

You're right about gods being underpowered in SFF, but I think they're not really literal embodiments of abstract forces all the time even in their own myths. Zeus, for example, chases tail more than anything else -- they have very human weaknesses and failing in a lot of myths. But yeah, they do tend to end up as just another kind of superhuman.

I think Joss embraced the Shakespearean tragedy part and didn't worry too hard about alien vs. god distincitons. :)

Me too. I'm mostly sure that Phil is probably still alive and Fury and Coulson used that as a push to get the Avengers to work together.

Biggest surprise was Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner. I have never had Bruce feels before but OMG I DO NOW. He might even have been my favorite. Also I ship Tony/Bruce so hard right now, GIVE ME FIC
He was a perfect Bruce Banner. He came across as the perfect mix of anger/sadness/resignation.

PEPPER PEPPER PEPPER right back to shipping Tony/Pepper as hard as ever.
I will never not ship this two for the movie verse. They are PERFECT for each other.

My thoughts regarding Phil: He probably died, but you can't tell me that SHIELD doesn't have 50 Coulson clones frozen in the basement, just in case. They'd totally do that.

Also, my favorite part was when '(s)he punched things' describes a lot of my favorite parts. Though sometimes it's shooting.

Oooooh now I want fic where Phil is just one of the line of Coulson clones, not even the original. Replaced whenever necessary.

Hahaha there was much epic punching AND shooting. A+ movie action!
