Wild afternoons on Bainbridge

Yesterday at 4 Dear Friend H. called and we watched the first episode of the new run of Bake-Off together. The phrase "OMG what are they doing?!?" was uttered quite a lot! I learned many things about my friend! She does not approve of even the concept of aquafaba meringues - there was literal shrieking down the phone, it was hilarious - waxed ( Read more... )

We were both shouting "Put your bloomin' hair up, you're going to drag it through the icing!" at Freya. I am happy to see more vegan bakers on the show, if only because it makes H. scream. *laughing*

Are digestives the same as graham crackers (which are yummy)?

I hadn't thought about filters needing to be cleaned of wildfire smoke!

. . . sort of? They don't use graham flour, but they're a very tasty semi-sweet round that goes very well with cheese. The milk chocolate-covered ones are my favorite, but as no one has them I'm guessing that the Prime Minister is holding them back to try and persuade President Biden to reconsider hastening the trade deal. :-D

Some of the ones in the dumpster were orange-brown rather than gray. *shudders, considers hoovering my lungs*

Considers sending you emergency chocolate digestives.... Marks and Spencers are the very best.

That first real change in weather and everybody runs to clean and change out filters...here, too. We just did ours with the first rains a couple of weeks ago.
:)
What am I searching for? Chard! Swiss Chard! There is none to be found in the fruit and veg shops or markets. Ok, granted it's a winter veg here so I should not have agreed to make a chard and zucchini dish for our cooking day this coming weekend but still...friend Elizabeth says she has seen some at a roadside fruit and veg stand down on the coast so she'll get it for me.

They were groooooooooss, Donna! It poured again today - ankle deep in the mall parking lot, with an active little whirlpool over the drain! - and the fire danger sign in front of the station was at "moderate" when I went by, so I'm finally feeling as if the worst is behind us.

Come to think, I didn't see any here when I stopped at Central Market for a sandwich (chicken and almond salad on a rather squashed croissant, but I inhaled it).

I have just watched the 2nd week of Bake-off. I am not spoilering - just saying that it gave me the urge to make brandy-snaps!

Oh, what a good idea! It's the right time of year for it, at last.

I used to be able to buy a brand of popped popcorn called Kernel Peppers--it was a lovely, light, crisp popcorn with salt and pepper on it. So addictive. But it hasn't been in the store since the pandemic was in full swing. I suspect they've gone out of business. *cries*
