I wish the weather and the ferry system had cooperated more this last week! It comprehensively messed up my plans to come see you.

Wow - you would have thought they would run more ferries to get the traffic off the road??

There aren't any more ferries to put into service. The Wenatchee, Tillakum and Kaleetan are all in the dock for repairs, most of them are well past their original service life and construction on the new ones hasn't begun yet.

Last night Colman Dock itself was shut down after the delayed 9.45 from Bainbridge docked and unloaded. It's operational today, but checking the Twitter feed from the Washington State Ferries account has become a regular part of planning to leave the island.

You must have been incredibly relieved to get home. My goodness, how would anyone not a 'native' and experienced with all this ever navigate all that?

People with a lot more experience driving in urban areas would probably be fine! (Android Auto and Google Maps help a LOT.) I was stepping through the directions to IKEA from here in my head and there's only a 10-mile stretch on I-5 that's scary - it's four lanes at 60mph, but with so much construction happening in Tacoma you're likely to be driving at 20mph for half of it, and then you're back on two-lane state roads.

But yes, I was very shaky once we were back home. P. is going to drive us for barbecue tonight, I am still a bit on edge.

I'm so glad P made it home and that the trip there and back again to fetch him from the airport wasn't as fraught as it might have been. It still sounds like quite an adventure. At least there were no dragons!

SR 99 is generally an industrial area, so it would not surprise me to learn that dragons are producing some of the "steam" from smokestacks!
