This is very silly

The owners of our place agreed that the existing washer and dryer had reached the end of their useful lives and bought replacements from Costco during the Presidents' Day sales. They arrived yesterday.

They have wifi.

Please to picture me, literally cackling with laughter and clinging to the kitchen island, as P. attempted to put appliances on ( Read more... )

I'm afraid of new appliances! Smart washing machine and dryers! LOL
Seriously though, I'm glad you got all the mould and stuff cleaned out... that makes such a huge difference in air quality.

I got an update on the phone.

For the WASHING MACHINE SOFTWARE.

There are seasonal splash panels for the display. It plays a jaunty little tune when it's finished.

Our Samsung plays its own tune when it is finished. D-d et al also have a Samsung and christened the tune 'the national anthem of Elsweyr' which was the name they gave their previous house.

Despite them now living in a house called 'Hillcroft', the name for the tune has stuck in both their household and ours :)

It’s getting hard to buy appliances that don’t have wifi lol! My drier tells me it’s finished on my phone. The only problem is that they aren’t supported for long so in about 5 years or so the software will have security flaws - and that’s the time to remove them from the ‘net.

P. put them on the secured home network, but the fact that we have to consider security issues re: a washing machine is breaking my brain.

I got a beep on my phone when the towels were done!

I had NO IDEA such a thing existed. I'm so 20th Century!!

I didn't either! I'm more interested in the fact that I can put two sets of sheets in at the same time and they are clean when they come out - and it only takes half an hour! What sorcery is this?

My old refrigerator wasn't exactly connected to WIFI, but there was a sensor in it that you held your phone to so the tech on the opposite end of the line could hear some sort of electronic code signal that told him what was wrong with the fridge (which in that case, a bad compressor so bye-bye fridge). My washing machine supposedly links to the internet but we had pretty poor WIFI back in the day when I tried to hook it up. Like the fridge, it also will "talk" to a technician via that, if something breaks, plus I guess you can download special cycles if you need to. I probably should try hooking it up again, but then there's the whole "hackers are using unsecured appliance connections" issue now, so I doubt I'll bother. 99% of my stuff gets washed on "normal" anyway!

Okay, that's wild. *g* Ours will also download special cycles (I added an energy-saving low temperature dry), but like you, most of my things are on "cold wash, tumble dry low". When it is time to launder the duvets, I will be very happy to have all the options as it will save me spending days at the laundromat.

Lovely to have nice, shiny, new appliances, but I would have the giggles too!

What would be really useful in such appliances would be an app that told you what had happened to the other sock... :)

They aren't stinky! It doesn't take three hours to dry a single load of bedding! That it says hello when you press the power button and has leaves blowing in the window on the front display is giggle inducing, but anything that makes the time go by while doing chores is welcome

A sock turned up after the old machines were removed - NOT one of ours.
