P. bought me a tablet in 2016, which I barely used. I pulled it out and had a "hmmmmm" moment. After checking it over, I installed the B&N Nook app and MoonReader Pro, opened Calibre, and proceeded to transfer my libraries. 310 books later (!), everything was saved to an onboard SD card and backed up two or three times. Someday maybe you can invest in a Kindle Paperwhite, given your wrist issues. They're SO lightweight and easy to hold.

P. has one, acquired as work spiff - the display is nice enough, but I wanted something that would handle more formats.

Hurrah! I was just thinking this afternoon that I should get my old tablet out and see if it can cope with updating as it is a shame that it is not used - and you have inspired me to get on with it as it would make a good back-up to my kindle.

Yay for saving your books and still being able to read them! I do love e-ink, I love my Kindle paper white.

Glad that worked out! I have a couple old e-readers, no idea if they still work, but I'm a big fan of having backups for the backups.

P.'s first gen Nook is definitely a brick, and should be returned to the Great Material Continuum to be made into something new. One of our backup drives croaked last week; happily we still had copies of everything and Costco was happy to give him a refund, but yes, backups for the backups!
