Pythagoras's theorem

a theorem which states that, in a right-angled triangle, the square of the length of the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the squares of the other two sides.

So why do people still add two and two together to make five?

My point is we are all capable of calculations such as the subject title, but when it comes to simple things some people get it completley wrong.
