Hmm...possible. Could also be, since she comes from the monied elite, that she's viewing herself as a "caretaker" who knows better than the masses what they need. There's so many twisted options!

I'm pretty sure Susan Faludi has written about Schlafly's politics more than once. She does in the book "Backlash: The Undeclared War against American Women" which I have if you want to borrow it.

A number of Schlafly's essays are online, but you've probably found those links already.

(i can shed no light on the workings of her mind, but you reminded me of the time i saw her, live, one time. it was a debate between her and Sarah Weddington. i remember leaving the event just as mystified by her as before.)

Argh! A testament to your inherent sanity, I would think. Or her lack thereof. :)

I ADORE you, thank you! That's at least an inspirational starting point, and one I probably should have thought of since I remember having that conversation with someone else not too long ago, about what equality would mean in terms of the female status quo as it is now. (I think the conversation was inspired by the book the Beauty Myth.) Very helpful!

what was your policy before, and what did you change it to? Did reading that book help inspire that poem you put up a little while ago in the writing group? That sounds like an interesting book, I'd be interested in reading it. Will have to look for a copy.
