File Under Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck! Not work friendly but I don't know if the cut will work

I thought the days of arbitrarily hacking off a woman's tits just to be sure were long past. Fuck!  Fuckity fuck fuck fuck!!!!!!!  Don't they do lumpectomies and then like MRIs to check the lymph nodes now?  I'm just so pissed off.  My mom's lumpectomy came back cancerous so they're going to take her breast and when they do they'll check the lymph ( Read more... )

Eugh :( I am so sorry to hear this. *hugs* With my grandmother they removed everything as well before they studied the lymph nodes, it depends on the type of tumor and they weigh survival chances. It's been years since my mom and I dealt with this, so I can't recall it exactly, neither what they did with my aunt. Try to stay strong Jes, this just so utterly sucks for you and your mom.

thanks for the support rhaps. The thing that's bothering me is that they are waiting a month to remove the breast. Well if it's not so urgent that they want to do it immediately, why are they so eager to just cut? Anyway, I'll be reading up on it today. Thanks again hon. xxxx

Huh? That doesn't make any sense to wait, I know the healthcare system is so different from ours, but shouldn't the docs put her first instead of money? With grandmom they only found out the moment they operated her and took away the lymph nodes as well because it looked very bad. It was a massive surgery, I remember that. I can imagine that they don't cut it away now if the tumor is isolated though. Write down every question you have and you can think of now. Good luck *hugs you*

And there I was, blathering on about shit yesterday and you let me.

I'm so sorry. I don't know how/why they do this but, and I'm stating the obvious here, shouldn't someone start asking questions and get second opinions before they go ahead with the hack job? Our neighbours' daughter here is currently fighting her third breast cancer and she still has her boobs and they only took what they needed to run their tests. She's done with the last chemo just this weekend with only some radiotherapy left to go. I know it depends on type of cancer cells and all that jazz but... you know, start hounding them with questions. Don't let money or crap insurance get in the way. ::hugs::

lol, I didn't find out about it til the next day, so don't feel bad, honey. I am going to go back and talk to the guy after I read up; a bit and talk to some people, but he treated me like, oh little girl, you just go home and trust the dr man. I wanted to bitch slap him. I figure I have time since he wants to wait a whole month before he does the surgery. I'm just really pissed off at this, how dare you question me attitude. My mom's 72 years old, I don't think she needs to get her body mutilated with no questions asked. I know how hard on your body chemo can be, and either way, he says she has to have it, so on top of radical surgery, well I just want to make sure it's really the only option. sorry forthe screwy spelling, i'm on
em;s laptop,m I hate this thing, hehe. xxxx

Sorry I had to shoot off yesterday. ((((hugs)))) You know, I have no idea why they're so keen on these operations. Geez, my genetic counsellor was offering me a mastectomy before they'd even done the blood test to see if I had the dodgy gene. The fibroid cist things run in our family too, mum has a load of them giving her grief right now too but she managed to get it out of the oncol that they weren't bothering anyone really so she said just to leave it. I've an appointment next month at the breast clinic again now they know I'm full of bad genes and no doubt they'll start 'recommending' operations again. With the strain on the NHS right now you'd think they'd be trying to dissuade people from spending time in hospital, but as you say, maybe it's an insurance thing, like covering their arses so they don't get sued or something - that seems to be the sole motivation for a lot of doctors these days.

Anyway, you know if you need someone to talk to or vent at, just ping me.
