Home, Safe

We're home and safe, thank goodness.

Burning Man was an extremely trying experience for me and Leah.  The good parts were amazing -- the art was indescribably incredible, I made wonderful new friendships with great people, and the sheer scale of the thing was amazing.  Forty thousand people came this year! Words fail me to describe the scope and ( Read more... )

Thanks for putting the story into words here, love! I'm very upset that such a thing happened and grateful that you are physically uninjured. I'm also happy that we were able to still have some good times there afterwards.

And very happy to be only a few feet away from a shower and a toilet!

WOW. I'm simply speechless.

Eric, maybe next year, you could join us at Pennsic War. No alkalai, just little white catapillars every once in a while. Just wear good, comfortable shoes and try not to get hurt putting on your garb. :)

I'm glad that you weren't hurt. Hopefully the fun moments following that made up for the near disaster.

I'm glad you are back safely. A vacation like that really makes one appreciate the pace of normal life. I have to admit, you have one heck of a story out of it.

I am so thankful you are home safe and so angry at the careless one. What a waste of all your hard work, not just since arriving on the playa, but for all the months beforehand. I can't imagine how hard it must be to summon the zen necessary to be all right with your experience.

It's good that it was in an entirely different environment. I hope that just being back in your familiar house and familiar climate will lend the whole thing an air of unreality. Welcome home!

Thanks Lena :)

We are also thankful nobody was seriously injured. This was Eric's first burn and my second. I felt very responsible because it took a lot of convincing to get Eric to go in the first place. After the accident he was very close to hitchiking to Reno and going home. I'm so thankful to the people who comforted us and let us go on our long walk the next day so that Eric could see some of the more beautiful aspects of the playa.

We went to Center camp for coffee/hot chocolate and then out into deep playa to look at the art and the mountains, feel the wind, fly kites, and just have some quiet peaceful moments. It was wonderful and relaxing and special beyond words to spend some quiet time chatting in Jesse and Allegra's trailer.

Next year we are planning on taking a long vacation at Eric's family's beach house. Lots of sailing and kayaking and kite flying and bonfires.
