My friend Cheryl passes on some wise words about true friendship.

I often tell my friends that a true friend is someone you can call up at three in the morning and say "I'm in Snohomish County and I can't find my pants!" and that friend brings you pants, no questions asked, all the way to Snohomish County.

I used to say that a true friend is someone I can call in the case of a true emergency and they will drop everything and come help you out. Quite similar to your pants comment. OTOH, never underestimate the kindness of strangers. The one time I really needed a friend and mine couldn't be bothered I was surprised to find that a coworker I hardly knew stepped up and drove me all the way to Olympia even though he had to go to work in 6 hours.
I have seen those lines of your friend's before. Love 'em!

Hmmm... it is usually more fun to help friends lose they pants than to provide pants.

Oddly enough, I have lost pants before. I don't know how one does that.
I lost my leopard skin pants. I don't recall being stranded anywhere without pants though.

How much would an elephant cost?

I try to be a good friend, but I'm not sure I would be willing to go all the way to Snohomish county to bring a friend pants. That's got to be at least a four day drive. Plus, I don't even have a car. Now you have me worried. Maybe I should try to be a little more generous.
