Chapter 16 (Part 1)

“So…you’re together too?” Frank asks Gabe and William awkwardly at lunch. He’s been sitting with us for three days now, ever since I told him he could on Monday. He failed to notice until today that Ryan and I aren’t the only ones together.

“Yeah!” Gabe says proudly, slinging his arm around William. “And so are Jon and Spencer,” he adds. Frank looks a bit overwhelmed.

“We didn’t used to all be together,” I tell him. He turns his focus toward me. “We all just used to be friends. But Ryan and I are the only two of us that are actually gay. Gabe and William both don’t care about gender, and Spence and Jon aren’t attracted to guys at all besides each other. It’s weird, I know,” I shake my head.

“Well…cool?” Frank says, laughing nervously.

“Don’t worry, we aren’t as weird as we sound,” Ryan jokes. Frank bites his lip for a minute before looking at Ryan.

“I don’t want to sound rude or anything, but…I thought you didn’t talk because you’re…you know,” he says awkwardly.

“He got his hearing back,” I smile, gripping Ryan’s waist tighter. Frank looks surprised.

“Oh. That’s awesome,” he tells Ryan, who smiles at him. Just then, Gerard and Mikey come up to our table. They’re brothers; I’ve known them both for a long time, but they’re really only acquaintances.

“Hey, guys,” Mikey says. Gerard is a bit quieter, doesn’t talk as much. “So we’re-" Gerard coughs pointedly, interrupting him. Mikey sighs. “Okay, fine. I’m having this party tomorrow night. Our parents are gone for the weekend. We wanted to know if you guys wanted to come?” he asks, eyebrows raised. I’m not really the partying type. I’ve only ever been to three.

William mumbles something to Gabe, and he nods. “We’re in,” William says, nodding to Gabe. Like he even needed to ask Gabe. I’m pretty sure he’s been to every single party held by anyone ever since he’s been at this school. Everyone loves him, so he always gets invited. The thing is, William and Gabe are really kind of popular. They just don’t acknowledge it. I’m kind of in the middle. Spencer and Jon also agree to go, and I’m about to decline when Ryan nudges my shoulder.

“Let’s go,” he says.

“You want to?” I ask hesitantly. Since when is Ryan the type to go to parties? He hates them more than I do. Out of those three I went to, I only managed to drag him to one, and he was miserable.

“Yeah,” he shrugs. “We don’t have anything else to do. It could be fun. Plus, don’t you get tired of just sitting at home every day?” he asks. Of course I do, but I still don’t want to go to a party.

“Um, I don’t know,” I mumble. “Parties aren’t really my thing, you know that.”

“Come on, Bren. I wanna go,” he pushes.

“Well, you can go without me, you know. I don’t mind,” I half-lie. It’s not that I care if he goes somewhere without me. It’s just that I worry. He doesn’t do well by himself. But he’d have William and everyone else there.

“But I don’t wanna go without you, that wouldn’t even be fun. Please?” he says, clearly determined on making me go. I roll my eyes and turn to Mikey again, who is patiently waiting.

“Sure, yeah,” I mumble half-heartedly. I don’t know, I just really don’t want to go to this party. But if it’ll make Ryan happy.

“Cool, well you know where I live, and the party starts at eight!” Mikey informs us before smiling and heading off; to tell other people I’m sure.

I sigh and slouch down a bit, picking at my food. I didn’t get a lot of sleep last night, and I’m just generally in a bad mood. This made it worse. I really don’t want to go. It would be selfish of me to make Ryan go by himself, though. He never asks for much. I can at least do this for him. We’ll just stay for a little while and then I’ll get him to leave early. No big deal.

“What’s wrong?” Ryan asks, watching me push my food around.

“Nothing,” I say shortly.

“You know I can tell when something’s wrong with you, Bren,” he says matter-of-factly.

“I’m fine,” I argue. He sighs heavily before putting his hand on my thigh.

“Brendon,” he pushes. I’m already irritated enough and I wish he’d just leave it. He’s so pushy sometimes.

“I said I’m fine, Ryan,” I say sharply. He flinches and moves away a little. “I’m just tired, okay?” I try.

“Okay,” he mumbles. William raises an eyebrow at me. I roll my eyes and stare down at my food. Ryan looks at me cautiously. “We don’t have to go,” he mutters quietly.

“What?” I ask.

“The party. We don’t have to,” he repeats. I look at him for a minute. He looks disappointed, his expression one of slight contempt, like he’s only saying this for my benefit. I sigh.

“No, you want to go. We’ll go, it’s fine. I’m just in a bad mood, and I’m tired,” I say again. He nods slowly and stares down at his pizza. I look at him biting his lip, and I grab his hand under the table and bump his shoulder with mine. He smiles a little and moves closer again.

“Wait, Spence, you’re grounded. How are you gonna get out of the house tomorrow night?” Jon asks. Spencer shrugs and contemplates it for a minute.

“I don’t know, I’ll just go out my window. My parents never come in my room,” he shrugs again.

“Wait, why are you grounded?” William asks. Spencer fidgets a little and a light blush appears on his pale complexion.

“Um, because, Jon and I…gotcaughtfoolingaround,” he coughs out hastily, turning even more red. Gabe laughs.

“Don’t you wish you had my mom?” I tease. Spencer scowls at me and flips me off.

“I feel bad for your mom,” William shakes his head sadly. “Having to listen to that all day.”

“It’s not all day,” I argue, and Ryan laughs, ducking his head.

“Okay be honest. How many times have you guys had sex since Monday?” William asks bluntly, and I choke on a grape, causing everyone to laugh except Ryan, who is patting my back furiously.

“That’s not something you ask someone!” I shriek to William, who is looking highly amused that I almost just died. Ryan looks embarrassed, cheeks flaming.

“Come on, it’s just us,” Spencer chimes in.

“Why do you look so embarrassed, Ryan?” Jon asks. “You’re the one who gave us a play-by-play of how the first time when down,” he points out. Ryan smirks.

“You’d think that would’ve taught you a lesson about asking personal questions, Will,” Ryan says pointedly, raising an eyebrow.

“I want to know,” William defends. “How many times since Monday? That’s only three days, unless you count today, which means you would’ve had to do it this morning, and I don’t think…” he trails off when Ryan and I start fidgeting and looking at anything other than William.

“Oh my God, you guys did it this morning, didn’t you?” he accuses. We don’t say anything, and Spencer starts laughing.

“You little horndogs,” Spencer laughs. “Seriously, answer Will, I want to know.”

“Fine,” I exasperate, throwing my arms up. “Since Monday? Then…” I stop to think. Monday was the day Chris beat up Ryan, so when we got home, I gave him attention all night, first a blowjob and then we had sex twice. “Just sex? Or do blowjobs count?” I ask. Spencer giggles some more. Frank is gaping at us, looking around as if searching for anyone sane in the group.

“Hmm,” William thinks, tapping his chin. “First tell me how many times you’ve had sex, and then blowjobs,” he clarifies. I huff.

“You guys are pervs,” I mumble. William taps his fingers impatiently so I sigh. Let’s see… Tuesday we had sex two more times, and we gave each other blowjobs in the shower. Hey, we need to have sex in the shower. Why haven’t we done that yet? Oh, I bet that’d be awesome. I need to mention that to Ryan. William clears his throat and I flinch. Oh, right. Yesterday…oh God, yesterday was insane. We had sex three times, all in different positions, but then we got tired and passed out. And then there was this morning. So that’s… “Eight times. And three blowjobs,” I finally answer, shrugging. Spencer gapes, and William’s mouth drops open.

“Eight times in three days?” William says incredulously. “You’re insane! Ryan, how are you even sitting right now?” he says. Ryan’s eyes get huge and his whole face turns red.

“How do you know he’s the one who bottoms?” I ask. William barks out a laugh.

“Brendon, come on,” he smirks. Ryan looks offended at that, and William hastily drops the smirk. “No offense. Plus, you told us yourself when you so graciously went into detail about it,” he points out.

“So? We could take turns,” Ryan shrugs.

“Brendon doesn’t wince when he sits down,” William retorts. Ryan huffs and goes back to staring at the table.

“Shut up,” I tell William. “It’s none of your business.” William looks taken aback.

“I’m just playing, you know that, right?” he says apologetically. I just nod. The bell signaling the end of lunch rings, and we all throw our trash away before heading to class.

Once we’re in Genevieve’s class and Ryan goes to the bathroom, William turns to me. “So dude, what was really wrong at lunch?”

I stare at him and heave a long-suffering sigh. He can read me like a book.

“I just really don’t want to go to that party. There will be a bunch of people I don’t like there, drinking and making themselves look like idiots, with bad music blaring and people making out everywhere.”

“You and Ryan will probably be some of those people,” he points out, and Spencer laughs. “But back to the point. Ryan really wants to go, and you know he won’t go without you.”

“I know; which is why I’m going. For him,” I reply. “And I really was tired,” I defend. William laughs and rolls his eyes. “Hey, can I ask you something personal?”

“Well, it’s only fair, since I know your personal life just about as well as you do,” he laughs.

“Right, well. I want to. With Ryan, I mean. I want to try, um. The…other way? You know?” I get out awkwardly. He looks confused for a second, until Spencer butts in.

“You wanna bottom?” he asks, eyebrow raised.

“I, um. Yes, exactly,” I mumble. “I was wondering if you, or…or Gabe,” I tell William. He coughs awkwardly a little.

“Uh, yeah. We switch,” he shrugs. I look at Spencer.

“Hey, don’t look at me. I haven’t had sex with Jon. We’ve just fooled around.”

“Look, what do you want to know? You’d better hurry and ask before Ryan gets back,” he warns. I sigh deeply before deciding to ignore the awkwardness and get on with it.

“Does it hurt?” I blurt out. William chews on his lip for a few seconds before answering.

“Yeah, at first. The first time it hurts a lot. You just have to take it slow. It might even feel so bad you want to cry, but then when you find just the right angle, and you find that spot, it’s like the pain completely disappears, and trust me, it’s worth it,” he finishes, only looking a little awkward. Spencer is frowning.

“Which way do you like better?” I ask, slightly curious.

“Um,” he grins sheepishly. “Bottom. You really can’t understand how good it can feel. Straight guys wouldn’t be calling us names if they knew what it felt like,” he shrugs nonchalantly.

“Damn. Jon and I need to get on that,” Spencer nods, impressed. I laugh.

“Do I even have to ask who would bottom with you two?” I say to him.

“Oh, come on. Does Jon really look like the kind of guy who would have someone’s dick in his ass?” Spencer says, not exactly quiet, and a couple of kids from the table next to ours look over at him weirdly. Ryan comes back from the bathroom, sitting down next to me. I send a shy smile his way, earning a curious look in return.

“You okay?” he asks cautiously. I smile again.

“Yeah, fine,” I nod. Now I just need to figure out how I’m going to go about telling him what I want to do.

***

It’s Friday, and Ryan and I just got home from school. My plan of telling him that I wanted to bottom last night failed horribly when I got home and promptly fell asleep. So now, I’m going to try again. Once we’re in our room, I close the door and lock it. Ryan raises his eyebrows, and I smile before walking over and pushing him down on the bed.

“What are you doing?” he asks with a seductive smile.

“Don’t know what you’re talking about,” I reply airily before grabbing his wrists and pinning them above his head, sitting on top of him.

“Oh, you don’t, huh?” he smirks. I shake my head with a sly smile before I lean down and gently bite his neck, earning a soft moan from him. I feel him gently push at my chest, so I pull back.

“Haven’t I worn you out already this week?” he laughs, trailing a finger down my chest.

“I’m never too tired for this,” I say, sliding my hand up his shirt.

“You were when you fell asleep yesterday,” he laughs again. I roll my eyes. He’s totally ruining the mood here.

“In the words of Ryan Ross, ‘I’m trying to sex you up over here,’ so could you play along?” That causes him to giggle some more.

“I’m not in the mood,” he says with a slight smile.

“Oh, whatever, you’re always in the mood,” I argue.

“Really, I’m tired,” he stresses. I frown. This is not going how I planned. “I wanna take a nap before the party,” he adds. I sigh a little before crawling off of him and falling back onto the bed. He scoots closer to me and wraps his arm around me. “Tonight, when we get back, okay?” he mumbles against my shirt. I give a noncommittal hum of acknowledgment.

“Are you mad?” he asks quietly. I scoff.

“Of course not. I can’t always expect you to want me when I want you,” I shrug. He raises up a little, and I meet his eyes.

“I want you, Bren. It’s not- God, that’s not it at all. I’m just sleepy,” he articulates.

“Let’s sleep then,” I say, snuggling closer to him. Maybe we’ll sleep all night and won’t make it to that stupid party.
