Why did they let this happen?

Friday night I was telling Karl about the memorial service at Biggs Airfield here in town for 9 fallen soldiers. We got to the topic of the POWs, I looked him in the eye and said I thought they were dead. I would be stunned to hear otherwise. Less than 36 hrs later I was pleasently stunned.
