PoTC vignette ... drivel ... thing

I have no clue where this angsty bit of gak came from, but it rattled around in my head for a couple weeks, so now I'm coughing it up. Sorta like a hairball. ;-) Just keep in mind this is years in the future.

A real treat to read! You've nailed Jack and Will so perfectly here. I loved it... even if it did make me grab a tissue or two. We never really like to think about the realities of piracy, but they were there for them. Dealt with them you did. Again, lovely job.

You're going to find this very odd of me to say, but I didn't find that sad. Not at all. In the very beginning, I thought it would be. But when Will fell asleep and Jack started talking to him, it was SO Jack, that I was unable to be sad about it. He was happy. He had what he wanted...an endless eternity of sailing his ship wherever he pleased with even less care of law than before. It was perfect, Erin. Utter perfection. Positively breathtakingly perfect. Is there another word for perfect? Just perfect is getting boring.

Not so sad after all anonymous February 18 2004, 06:17:42 UTC
Jack was doing what he loved; he had the sea, the Pearl and freedom. There is always risk at sea and sometimes the price is paid, a better way for Jack to go than to fade and wither on land. Will got to say goodbye, for a while, to his friend and had the reassurance of those footprints leading back to the sea. Not a bad thing at all.

Well done, love. A fine restraint shown here - grief without gratuitous tugging of heartstrings. 'Tis good; very good indeed.

And when his last letter arrives in Will's hands, months later... what will it say?

Oh, Erin, I'm torn between laughing because Jack was so Jackish ("But it all 'ad to do with goin' from one place to another precipitously and without my prior consent") and crying because this was so heartbreakingly sad. I'm smiling with a lump in my throat. Gorgeous, absolutely gorgeous.
