PoTC vignette ... drivel ... thing

Feb 17, 2004 12:18

I have no clue where this angsty bit of gak came from, but it rattled around in my head for a couple weeks, so now I'm coughing it up. Sorta like a hairball. ;-) Just keep in mind this is years in the future.

Hey -- found this story while meandering my way across piratic journals looking for Jack-fic. This is just beautiful. Quintessence of Jack and Will, and a fitting (and thankfully not awful) end-and-beyond to Jack Sparrow. "They'll never catch me, now!" -- how true!

The end, with Will, the strong and decent, returning to his family knowing there's his place, hits me in rather the same way as Sam's homecoming from the Grey Havens in "The Lord Of The Rings": it's so good and right and inevitable, but it aches because of all he's said goodbye to. Sigh.

I loved this! Since no one gets out of life alive, it's really not that sad that Jack gets to go the way he would have wanted--with his Pearl and his freedom. They'll always remember this as the day they almost caught Captain Jack Sparrow. But he gets away again. I like how you show him going on to the next big adventure. And he's still Captain Jack Sparrow--evading all constraints even in the after-life, free to go where he wants to go.

All your writing is exquisite. I'll be friending you if you don't mind.

here from crack_van - absolutely love this, thank you!

This gave me what I call "the GOOD ache" - fitting and beautiful ends always do. This is the death Captain Jack Sparrow Deserves - because nobody really dies - they jusy leave HERE.

Ahoy, Lady Smith!

Why, thank you for coming over and reading! And thanks even more for leaving such nice comments. :-) It's lovely to know someone is still reading my stuff.

Thanks so much again! Your post was a bright spot on an otherwise rainy, soggy day. ;-)
Cheers ~

Ooh, this was lovely, very poignant. I loved it, and it's haunting me now. (But not it a bad way, in that sort of very well done sad story way). :-)

If I had the time, I would tell you some of my favourite bits, but I'm not supposed to be online, I'm supposed to be wrapping my husband's birthday gift while he's out, so I'd better hurry up and do that... But here's one that just caught my eye so I'll comment on it.

Behind that was dancing ink-black eyes and a golden fox grin that promised everything and nothing, and dared it all.
EXCELLENT line, beautiful characterization of Jack, and it was also somehow so very piercing because of the whole situation - the promise of everything and nothing but daring it all just seems to sum up Jack's life and death - and whatever place he is at after death. Lovely. :-)

Sorry to have to leave it at that!

Ahoy, mate!

Wow, thank you so much for a lovely review! LOL, goodness, don't apologise for not being more effusive - this was more than enough to put a very large, very silly grin on my face. I'm delighted that a writer of your caliber enjoyed my little ficlet as much as I enjoyed writing it. Thank you for leaving your thoughts. :-)

LOL, and happy birthday to hubby! :-D
Cheers ~

oh dear, I don't think I deserve such a compliment, I really haven't got much caliber to speak of, actually. :-)

I hope I shall have some time in the future to read some more of your fics! (The holidays have me rather swamped at present!)
