If it were me, I'd rather have the visa go through and the grant get declined than the other way around. It's still frustrating, though.

The one thing I will point out is that there is a very large random component in what gets funded, at least in all the fields I've ever touched. Don't take this personally. (I don't know if you do take it personally, but just in case...)
