Well it looks like we're in for another 4 years of Bush (she said, stating the obvious). Plus Michigan's "ban gay marriage and the possibility of civil unions" constitutional amendment passed, despite every newspaper and radio program spelling out why it's a Really Bad Idea unless you're a lawyer ( Read more... )

Personally, I'd much rather see Barack Obama as president than John Edwards. He's just been elected as a Senator for Illinois. Maybe in a few years we'll get to see him trounce some unsuspecting Republican in a presidential debate...

I recommend against autodefenestration unless it's warm outside and there's a swimming pool directly underneath. If you want to move back... well, won't the paperwork take about four years anyway? It sure seemed like it did last time. (I won't even go into how that would interact with tg's job.)

Wherever you decide to go, if anywhere, I'll still come visit. Just like with raira, it's more a matter of planning ahead than anything else.

There's always Australia...

Although I don't think it's precisely legal here.

Still, you know, I know this Australian who'd be very glad you were here...

Bah, they suck. Sorry it was a bad outcome for you.

History suggests the pendulum will swing back. And a country that could survive 8 years of rulership from a poor actor with senile dementia can probably get through just about anything. One result of this will almost certainly be a stronger Democratic presence in the House and Senate the next time those elections come around. I like a quote I heard recently attributed to H. L. Mencken: "Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want and deserve to get it good and hard." Once they get a taste of what they've asked for, they will begin to clamour for the exact opposite.
