I absolutely agree :D I love the similarities between this Doctor and Troughton's, who was my favourite. I wondered whether they'd be merely superficial, but there's definitely a touch of his personality in there somewhere.
When he was first announced, even from the snippets and publicity shots and interviews I thought 'this is going to be a proper, old-school-style Doctor again, not an action-romance hero'. Based on the this episode I'm hoping this is true! :D
Oh, and - I didn't like the new theme much either, but I did quite like the new TARDIS.
Myself, I thought the same thng about proper old-school-style Doctor Who, but I didn't quite believe it; he was too young and pretty (in an odd way) so they were going down the same road as Tennant in my opinion. I'm glad to see my expectations were confounded. On the Gallifreybase forum, a lot of people are disappointed because Smith's characterisation is so similar to Tennant's, but I can see no similarity at all.
I'm more excited for this series than I have been for a long time! Roll on next Saturday :o) x
