Yeah, I hate the anti-Valentine's Day stuff too. I've generally agreed with exes (during the relationship, not after they became my exes, that would be weird) that we'd celebrate without spending any money and that worked well. Danielle likes doing the whole big thing, so I'm just as happy doing that. The anti isn't a new thing, though - I can remember my nan and grandad boycotting Valentine's day because it was so commercial. I don't get it. Just.... don't do it commercially. Or don't do it. That's exactly it, that story about the boyfriend is perfect. That's what it should be about.
And yes, it is pure pettiness. The Mother's Day comparison is actually really good, any day like that can kind of hit you. For me, it reminds me of September when a selection of Christmas things go up in the supermarkets; it's not all-encompassing that early, it's just a few shelves of things. But people really go off about it! Clearly if it's up there's a market for it, just let people get on with what they want to buy, and ignore what is of no interest to you!
