"It was tortuous" in josh's words. and i agree. like your one sided abbott, the meditation instructor and speaker last night was speaking his own opinions rather than relaying the message of the religion/philosophy. he also seemed against other traditions of Buddhism. i agree. in every religion we find schisms, it is only from within we find the whole pure truth.
The truth comes from within... very true. This reminds me of the struggle I have with the Catholic church in my neighborhood. I once found inspiration there, but lately it's just been criticism of modern religious trends. I guess it gets distorted when you have religious leaders trying to form a similarly-minded community. With individual searches and meditiation or prayer, there's just you and the truth you're reaching.
