I subbed for three days in a row, wednesday through friday, at Marshall High School. I subbed for the same choir class and watched the same damn videos which were "The Sound of Music" and "Man of La Mancha." After watching the films for 8hrs a day, three days in a row, I actually started liking the films. Sophia Loren is so damn hot. Music students ( Read more... )

watching these kids makes me remember the things I used to do. I can see where some of them might be headed and with others that could be a surprise. Technology and trends change but a lot about people don't change.

I was told by one student that I looked like Steven Segal! WTF... probably because I have my hair back in a pony tail.

Congrats on your subbing! You can always fling a chair at them when they piss you off ;o)
Seriously, one time in elementary school this man through a book across the room that went between two of the students heads! But, then again I went to the shittiest elementary school.

Im a firm believer in the board of education. (the one that has holes in it and sits on the wall) Half the time I'm not even teaching, I'm baby sitting.
Kids are a big reflection of their home life and environment. If they didn't learn manners at home they should learn them in school.

I have heard some teachers say that teaching is not an 8 to 5 job because you spend a lot of time parenting other children. They didn't just mean this in a discipline sort of way, but the guidance and counsel type of way. I don't know how true this is and I suppose that it really depends on the school and grade level. However, this is a good experience for you and good luck! :o)

John Marshall, the old Alma Mater... Is it still a shit-hole or did they clean it up a little? Last time I was there it reminded me of the dollar movie theater off of 410 and Babcock. When I went to Marshall (94-98) we kept it pretty clean, but after I graduated they started implementing rules (your shirt has to be tucked in, your hair must be a 'natural' color, etc. I think they even stopped eating outside or something). Anyway, I guess the students quit caring.

JM didnt appear to have a dress code while I was there. I can see how it would resemble the dollar theatre.. haha. A lot of things about high school dont change.
