fic: Hello, I'm too tired to smile today | bandom | 2236 words

I spent most of today hopped up on NeoCitron and watching Mythbusters reruns. During the commercial breaks I wrote something.

title: Hello, I'm too tired to smile today
rating: I didn't know I could write anything g rated, but here it is.
words: 2236
summary: Spencer just wants to go home. He ends up in Chicago. This is not a coincidence.

Oh man.
(my prompt~! -joy-)

I actually adore the bittersweet taste of this. It's quiet and weary and frail and soft and beautiful.(Sorry for the lack of punctuation.) It feels very dreamlike and made me feel dazed, and as much as I'm trying to find a word for it I can't. The details made it so very real and believable.

"I thought about it. Sometimes I think up conversations in my head, things I could tell you, things I want to tell you. I don't think they'd go like I imagined them, though."

Thank you so very much for sharing this.

I am so glad you enjoyed it - I was worried that whoever requested this fic would be disappointed that I didn't follow the original idea closer. Thank you so much for commenting!

Thank you so much! Your Jon/Spencer fics are some of my absolute favourites, so I am so glad you enjoyed this.

Typically I am pretty happy to have open endings that allow for interpretation, but in this instance I felt like I wasn't finished telling this story after posting it and I have actually been working on the Jon POV to this, which continues on after the last scene here.

I missed this the first time around, came over from the link on "don't hold back...". That was really great, bittersweet is a good description :)
And now I have to go listen to the Weakerthans - I know this isn't a songfic per se, but I feel like the tone of the story, and Spencer's weariness, really fits well with title song... (at least I'm assuming it's from 'relative surplus value'?)

ps - is it wrong that I sort of want a fic with post-divorce Jon as the person in "plea from a cat named virtute"? ((but not "explains her departure", because it's too sad))

Thank you so much. The title here is from Relative Surplus Value, the whole song really set the tone for this story and that line in particular really resonated.

ACK. You are totally right vis a vis Virtute. I love the stories that the Weakerthans tell with their lyrics, they are so tragic and beautiful and imperfect and amazing.

I'm so sorry I missed this when it was initially posted, ugh. I loved the longing in this, how they're both broken but not talking about it, and yet they still manage to fall into a rhythm. IDK, when it comes to the split, these two break me the hardest (Ryan and Spencer notwithstanding).

Thank you so much! I just want to write thousands of words of these two finding each other again post-split, there is something so satisfyingly aching and sweet about it.
