S and JB dug the holes, S and I planted the trees, and we all covered the loose soil with sections of broken roof tiles. White stuff! Lots of it!
One of the plasterers got here about 8:30, having gotten stuck in the snow several times on the way. (The other is probably still stuck on the other side of Lewis Pass.) Home and safe and grateful
JB and I are home tonight, having stayed at S&J's last night (many many thanks to them), as the house was potentially unsafe and leaking after yesterday's quake. Probably a third of the roof tiles had slipped -- Sebastian worked like a navvy to get them back in place today, bless him. Big quake. Big damn quake. (4:35 a.m., magnitude 7.1, epicentre 30km west of Chch, 10km deep.) Big, long, scare-the-life-out-of-a-person deep rumbling, rolling quake.
