I've been thinking a lot...

about stuff that I used to enjoy doing, and things that I now find annoying. Mostly this has to do with the SCA and how my interest in it has waxed and waned over the years. I was pretty excited about the Barony up here, seemed like a chance to be a big part of something cool. Thing is, I don't really have a lot in common with most SCA folks ( Read more... )

You had more support than you realize. There was a group at the meeting who didn't vote yes or no for *anyone*. Seriously. You couldn't see them when you were sitting down because you were in the front row. I don't know why they were there, they just sat there and, just like on the Blue Pages, didn't bother to participate. I've probably told you more than I should, but you were in the room through all of this too, so it's no secret. You just didn't have the same viewpoint as I did.

I would have been happy either way, because I know that both you and Elizabeth would have done a great job, and you're both strong enough to get us through those initial bumps.

Come and play. Get to know people here, let them get to know you.

It's not about support or loosing the vote, it's about the SCA and why I get fed up with it (well not it, but the people in it). They constantly bitch and whine yet when given a chance to be involved they 'lurk' then they get all hoity toity because someone is actually doing something. Yep I rub folks the wrong way but I fucking do something at least. That's always been my beef with people in the 'game', they rather ride on someone else's coat-tails than actually sweat it up themselves.

The Barony isn't just a 'cool idea' it is desperately needed up here, people are getting burnt out or apathetic in increasing numbers. I'm now 'waiting' to see what is going to happen rather than making it happen, and that sort of thing drives me nuts. Also, I don't like to 'play' that much anymore, I like to hang out, do some music (period or otherwise) tell off-color stories and maybe if I'm feeling good, do some fighting. Without something else to do I usually find the cost vs. fun factor to be too high for my tastes. So I don't go.
