Elephants can paint?!?!?! like... really paint PICTURES of stuff, not just splash paint around all abstract like. It took me a while to believe this was real, holy crap! Elephants kick ass!

Walruses are pretty great too.

I love the fluid head-bobs and the little fin-flips that taper off, after he lands on his stomach, hahaha.
you've been hit by, you've been struck by, a smooth walrus

there's something even better out there... MUSICAL ELEPHANTS!

I wish I could remember the name, an awesome musician friend suggested me...it was something like... thai elephant something..or other... I think there may be a youtube video out there I watched long ago?

Thai Elephant Orchestra? I found a couple different videos (different people/groups)... that is cool, though it's comparable to the abstract/splashy paintings in a lot of ways--like, to our ears it's not recognizably "musical" necessarily... plus looks like most of the elephants have handlers guiding them. Still very cool, but in a different sort of way...
The thing that amazes me about this "self-portrait" is that it's so controlled and recognizable and well, skilled. Like Brian mentioned maybe someone spent a looooooooong time teaching the elephant to draw that specifically but man. Crazy stuff.

thats proof that either

a. we can be reincarnated as animals
b. animals are in fact smarter than humans
c. someone was spending ALOT of time training that elephant how to do that (same applies to the dancing walrus)
d. we,as people, have seriously been treating artists as being way more important than it is. human art is WAY overrated. animal art shall reign supreme!( i am way more impressed with this than any Van Gogh painting. any respect i had for fine art has just plummeted. haha.)

hahah yeah I was like... did they train it how to draw an elephant??? But like... they don't seem to even be guiding it in any way (whereas with the walrus, her dance cues are likely signals for a certain move or sequence of moves from the walrus--just a more lengthy/complicated set than the usual Sea World show)... even if they did train the elephant, it was somehow able to remember that specific image/pattern and re-create it... hell, it draws an elephant (with flower) better than I do!!!! geezus! I was just jaw-dropped by it hahaha.

also, humans overrate themselves in general. ;) I mean, we have done some pretty cool stuff.

BUT ELEPHANTS CAN PAINT! hahahaha
