Poll Read, read read

Feel free to vote and then give your reason why in the comments. Currently I'm leaving towards Confederacy of Dunces, and have The Mambo Kings Play Songs of Love by Oscar Hijuelos as the book for this week.

I'd recommend The House on Mango Street, only because it is a classic urban story that does not take long to read at all.

I akin it to "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn".

I have just finished reading "The Crimson Petal and the White" by Michael Faber. While it was a good novel to follow, I found that towards the end I had lost the feeling and depth that I was achieving... it could possibly be because I had put down the novel midway through, and was distracted before I started to read it again, but it could also be because of the plot lines. I would have to say that it is a novel unlike any other that I have read, so I did not think it a waste of time. In fact it did not romanticize the Victorian period like so many other books, and gave you garish lighting with a little rough-tough history.

=^.^= Didn't mean to give you a full book review, but that's how it came out, lol. If you would like to read it, I could probably send my copy to you via media mail (extremely cheap for such a heavy book). I usually can't keep all the books I read, otherwise I would have no space at all in the house, hehehe.

It's looked interesting but I didn't know of anyone who'd read it. I think I'd like that. What genres do you enjoy? Fiction or Non? We shall do an exchange.

David has dibs on the book first, which means it will be awhile. However, even if I have to purchase another copy from work, I will read it before I visit New Orleans.

It may be soon. David wants to go on a real, true vacation, an escape from everyone and everything. I may even turn off my phone. It will be this year and soon. We've narrowed it down to Las Vegas (his choice) and New Orleans (mine). Our pipe dream is Europe, if we find a good, inexpensive time to visit.

Btw, what's your thoughts on Freakonomics? Just finished it and was pleased with some chapters, disappointed with others. It could have been so much more.

I read through 'The Good Earth' in a day and a half in High School and re-read it last year for the heck of it. It is a very good book, and I think you'll enjoy it.

Great review. Does it make your top ten?

There are too many good books to narrow them them down to just ten.

This seemed to convince me that I need to hurry with my reading!

Btw, I know you're a fan of chick lit like me...have you had a chance to read Something Borrowed by Emily Giffin?
