I keep thinking I would like to get a dog. You have to walk a dog when you live in town, so that would get me some exercise. Except dogs don't always leave you alone when you want them to. You have to pick up their poop, too. And it would be more difficult to travel, since arrangements would have to be made. I don't want a cat again because I ( Read more... )

Forget getting a dog - they are harder to have in town with needing to walk them and yes - poo is a problem in the yard. Jakey has a field and likes to poo out there when we let him off the chain to do so. But since that is not always possible we have poo to clean still. The pee will burn your lawn too. I do love my dog but I don't know if I would get another when he passes (which is gonna be a long time since he's only 3)Dogs are fun but they are work. Cats!!! Gatsby is Mr. Attitude! and he still ruins things even without front claws. I was dusting the fire place and found a couple of scratches on the mantel - probably from him jumping off of there. He has also done some chewing on things. He has ruined more things than Jakey ever will and he's just a temporary resident! He really is lucky that I love critters. I say if you want interaction with pets without the commitment then volunteer over at Bellweather! They may need someone to walk dogs and clean up after cats and dogs. I was gonna do that last year but then I got too busy at ( ... )

Other people's problems situations and decisions are making me feel crushed. Some of them are people at work - we have some young people that I tend to "mother".
OK, no dog and no cat. Maybe I will volunteer. Gotta wait and see what happens with the job situation.
You know you will get another dog if anything ever happens to Jake. You are just one of those people that needs a dog!! Is THAT why you married my brother? lol. Kidding. Really.

I have to disagree with Krithana. I really like our dog. He does poop in the yard, obviously, but they are such a companion to have around. Our dog is so smart and when it is just us here he is very well behaved. Like today, I came home for lunch to let him out cause Jeff had a lunch at work and the dog was mad because Jeff did not come home. It was so funny. They do have to be trained and are very difficult as puppy's, but if you put the time in (Jeff did) when they are little, they can become like a member of the family. I was always a cat person because of the low maintainence. But I really like our Dog.

totally get a dog. the bad parts are far outweighed by the good. having a pet lengthen's your life, strengthens your health, and increases your happiness.
