garbage

Does anyone know how to throw away a trash can? We have one that is impossibly disgusting. It's caked on the inside with some sort of rancid gray sludge, and you can smell it all around the front of our building. I'm not up for cleaning it, but I'm also not sure how to get it gone ( Read more... )

You need to break up the trash can and put it in a trash bag to get the garbage men to realise it's trash.

It's possible there's a dumpster within dragging distance; we're only a few blocks away from some shops. I'm not up for putting it in my car though.

As someone without a trashcan... are they issued by the city? Cuz then maybe they would replace it? I dunno, man. That's like, homeowners' stuff.

Heh, I don't have too many plastic bags meself. But you are welcome to them if I come across more!

I wanted to show you this cool blog entry where this lady explains why and how she can flush the contents from her catbox, because I think it is awesome. But I kind of remember you saying you had to try a few cat litters before your kitties liked it, so maybe that wouldn't work out. But I think the post is so cool that I thought I would surreptitiously give you the link anyhow by telling you about how I was originally going to give it to you, then wasn't, then did. ^_^

Yes.

Wow, I cannot believe I didn't think of flushing the cat litter. Actually, it's probably a good thing I didn't initially think of it, because I would not have thought to research whether I am using a flushable kind; fortunately, it turns out we are. (If anyone is curious, we are using World's Best Cat Litter, recommended by

Is it possible to put a sign on the trash can asking the garbage men to take it away? Not sure if it would work but it's worth a shot, eh?

Wrap the can in a giant garbage bag! And then place it in a larger garbage can. For the sake of propriety.

Yeah, I use the plastic bags for the cat litter. I guess paper bags would make me feel less guilty, but whatever. Like anything's gonna biodegrade in a landfill. Flushing, when possible, is pretty cool. Some californians claim it kills otters or something, but an outspoken parasitologist convinced me it was bullshit.

Dunno if it is bullshit or not, but the lady in the link I gave above suggested just testing to see if your cat has the otter-killer parasite. And strictly indoor kitties usually don't have it.

They've had two fecal tests done since we got them; the first time they tested positive for coccidia, and the second time they tested negative. So they should be good by now, and yeah, their chances are less of catching anything else since they're indoor, and we don't have a dog or kids or anything.

See above regarding toxo testing. You can see toxo in a fecal sample if the cat is indeed shedding during that brief period. Uncommon, though.

Hooray for defeating the coccidia!
