San Antonio. 2 weeks!

My sister moved there and my oldest niece (16) stayed behind to finish school, so I'm taking her down.

It should be a nice little road trip!

They're not too bad. And they're only half the size of the ones we get every year. They don't bite or sting, in fact they are edible! If you're adventurous enough, they are very high in protein. My dogs have been eating the hell out of them!

Other then the fact that there are MILLIONS of them (and I'm not kidding) they're just noisy as all get out. The males sing to attract the females and they must be some horny bastards cause once they start, they don't let up for weeks!

i used to love 'em things! "chicharras" they are called in spanish, or at least in venezuela. which, incidentally, is the same name we use for a roach (the kind one smokes, not the insect)

i would take a cicada or two and put it on my sweater and go like that to class. quite the fashion statement.
