Madeline's in the bathtub, playing with her rubber toys. She tosses the turtle out of the tub, then the tiger. Next she grabs the little purple shark. She knows a lot of words, and learns them quickly, but for some reason the word "shark" hasn't really stuck. Certain essays in this book were required reading for Boardman's "Theory of Reality" class in Winter Term 1997, and I've been re-reading a few of them. NY Times article on researchers who have trained capuchin monkeys to use money.

When taught to use money, a group of capuchin monkeys responded quite rationally to simple incentives; responded irrationally to risky gambles; failed to save; stole when they could; used money for food and, on occasion, sex.

I've been trying to get things in order around here so that I can streamline the job transition at least a bit. I spent a lot of time on Tuesday reviewing the written job offer and getting my responsive documents put together to send back to the recruitment people at the firm.
