An Asian American Woman's Survival Guide? Making up Asian eyes correctly calls for a subtle blending of earth tones while avoiding bold strokes of blue or green, colors suggestive of caucasian eyes. Rightly or wrongly, the wrong eye makeup marks you as someone trying to distance herself from her racial identity.

This happens to be a very touchy subject with me because I'm often considered 'whitewashed'. People say I'm half Canadian, which in itself doesn't bother me--why shouldn't I be? I've spent half my life in China and the other half in Canada--but it does bother me that it is often said derogatively. There is nothing wrong with choosing to adopt some western customs.
In any case, I don't see why a so-called Asian American has to be either Asian or American. It always seemed more feasible to find a comfortable niche between the two and enjoying the benefits of both.

I'm pretty sure it isn't. If you look at the rest of the site, it's all Asian American articles and some of the site isn't terrible, though at times rather mediocre.
Maybe we should start a banana pride club? ;)

Of course, I say this from the position of having no 'home culture' whatsoever (in terms of from whence I would appear to have sprung: too white to be black, too black to be white), but I still think it's valid.
Yes, you can mix and match cultures to your liking: you're you - fantastic, brilliant, individual (not to mention utterly cool) and you. So don't allow yourself to be confined by expectations (although that doesn't mean rebel for the sake of it, 'cos that's just lame).
And, obviously, somehow I don't think your life revolves around you finding a Quality Asian Guy to dote upon...

I put on green eyeshadow this morning as my little rebellion. *hangs head in shame*

In a way, this article makes me feel like the women's movement never happened. But I suppose if they were comiing from a different culture, I can't really judge it against American standards.
And the site also provides gift ideas for your Asian male or female in your life! Check out this:
DEFAULT: A decorative jar of homemade cookies, jam, or his favorite sauce. The domestic subtext reassuringly suggests your willingness to cook for him as well as showing the efforts of caring. And never give chocolate to a woman because it shows utter lack of caring, apparently.
And how are you such a nice guy? Are you just this way online? :)

Oh, and Russell Wong is still a hottie, even if he doesn't feed my blond fetish beat out Jude Law. And isn't he only half Asian anyway? He looks that way to me.
Karen Mok is still teh hawtest though, and I'm not just saying that because she played a dorky librarian... really... well... maybesortof...

I don't know if Russell Wong is half-Asian or not - I don't think so, he looks more like a very rugged Asian with more testerone than your average specimen. I'm going to google Karen Mok, now...

Mok was the love interest/comic relief/whatever the hell she was in Black Mask. She rocks! I spit upon all those Jet Li fans who said bitchy things about her. Her character was a huge dork and much more interesting than the cardboard one-woman-killing-machine-ninja-kungfumistress-BDSM-stereotype-miss-Asia-Barbie creature who was the Other Woman in the hero's life.

W0rd, w0rd, and a thousand times w0rd. I, too, am often considered un-Desi and un-South Asian because of my refusal to speak in Hindi 24-7 and watch Bollywood films. Apparently, that's some sort of sekrit aZn pRiDe ritual as well. :/

:/ indeed. Although I do feel guilty sometimes because I don't know, most Asian guys don't do it for me although I've had a few crushes here and there. I'll just go back to admiring Edward Norton, now.
