Computer R.I.P.

Friends, we are gathered here today to celebrate the life of a very special piece of machinery. I met her back in the year 2000, when she was called EVADNE. Yes, she had that name even before I did. It would be the first of many names she would hold, including LUNA (to match the other two computers in the house, MOTHER EARTH and SOL) and AURORA ( Read more... )

I wish I could understand how you felt. Alas, my last computer earned his name of Piece O'Crap, so other than the "Damn, my computer died" feeling, I don't know what it's like. One of the very few good things I can say about old Piece was that he was kind enough to let finish backing up my files before he died a few hours later.

In other news, taking this one class at college, and I noticed that the teacher wrote the book for the class. My mind immediately leapt to this.

I hope someday you will find a computer to love as your very own. It's a very special feeling.

Wow, that's a blast from the past. Professors: still as evil as Snape.

Oh no! My condolences! I got my first computer in 2003, and I cannot even imagine what I would do if it died. We've had a couple battles with viruses and the like, but he's always pulled through so far. But I always worry about that unavoidable someday, when he just won't wake up one morning. D:

It's horrible feeling, especially when it's a lingering death like AURORA's was. It's weird to see how much you rely on them and don't realize it until they're gone. :(

I'm afraid my dear Turd Ferguson is about to crash pretty soon. He's as slow and unresponsive as a beta IBM. :(

The slow decline is always so depressing. I wish you luck with Turd and whatever (whenever) his successor will be.

Well, at least you gave her a kind send-off. Most of us aren't as understanding as you were (Piece O'Crap and Turd Ferguson say it all) and I wish you strong, exciting computing with this next baby until at least 2015.

Thanks, man. There's still a while before the new one comes, but I get excited thinking about it. It's easy to love the old computer when a new one is around the corner.
