When the doorbell chimes, I just about sprint for it so I can catch it before it wakes up Isabella.

"Evalon, uh, come in."

i walk into my old condo and smile at him.

"hey Stefan, is Iz asleep?"

[stefan_d]

"Yeah. They gave her some good drugs." I try to smile, but it don't come off too well.

"She should be up before long, though. C'mon in, sit down."

[evalon]

i follow him into the living room and sit on the sofa, noticing how tired his face looks.

"i can't believe they let her leave so soon. how are you doing with all of this, by the way?"

[stefan_d]

"Nah." I can just about feel the smoke comin' out my ears. "Why would he need to contact us? The painting's gone, and he's made himself feel like a real big man by poundin' on a woman."

I can feel myself turnin' red. 'Bella was right; I'm gonna have some kind of attack, but it makes me so fuckin' mad I can't stop myself.

he looks like he's about to explode, and i don't blame him. "i probably shouldn't ask you this, but do you have any plans to pay a visit to him anytime soon? 'cause i'd be more than happy to keep his damn minions happy while you kick his ass."

personally, i'd like to kick his ass myself, but i figure Stefan should handle it. they're both human, i'm not.

I sigh heavily. This is so different from the old me; I woulda kicked ass and asked questions later - and probably gotten my damn fool self killed to boot. "I got no plans."

She looks perplexed, and I decide I'd better explain a little. "I promised Isabella I'd leave him alone, and I'm gonna try like hell to keep that promise. You wanna know the truth? I could kill him without even feelin' sorry about it."

I scrub my hands over my face. "But she doesn't want me to."

this is the part where i'd normally join him in the sighing, but you know, i don't usually breathe much. i shrug instead and give him a weak smile.

"well, i suppose she just wants it all to be over with. i can respect that. hopefully he will, too."

maybe a change of subject would improve his mood. "so, how long is your brother staying in town?"
