Well the same thing happened to me and Emerson(UGH NO ITS AN EMERSON STORY I HATE IT WHEN THAT HAPPENS) last summer I was in cali for two weeks and the day I got back he left for montana for 3 weeks and then school started and i went to south and he went to marist and he dumped me on the first day of school. BUT you're not an asshole and neither is Rachel and if you guys really care about eachother you will make time to see eachother and it will be hard but if you guys are meant to be it will all work out. :)

Soemtimes it can be embarassing to realize that you've walked in on people takling about you. Because you get very self conscious, and you can imagine all these terrible things that they could have been discussing.
The best thing to do in a situation like that is to simply not let your imagination run wild. Most likely they were saying nothing bad.
