Finished Deathy Hallows. Also read White Oleander, which was geat but I don't quite feel like posting a review. This summer has been painfully solitary and I'm very glad it's nearly over. Franny and Zooey- J.D. Salinger
Though I like Zooey's proclamation at the end of the book, there is just too much heavy-handed philosophy here. The protagonists share Holden Caufield's distaste for life, but are compltely less lovable. It's not really a fun read.

The Mysteries of Pittsburgh -Michael Chabon

I found this book in the recommended fiction section at Joseph Beth, and I was pretty disappointed.The reviews on the jacket said "It will find its place beside On the Road and Catcher in the Rye." I read a couple of Nick Hornby books, and here is what I thought:

A Long Way DownI almost read this in one day. I found to book to be very witty and darkly humorous. It manages to tap into a range of emotions without getting overly sentimental and mushy. The four narrators meet on top of a roof on New Year's eve, and all are planning to jump. ( Read more... )
