Sad Days

I just got back from Salt Lake City, Utah. I'd never been there before. I went for a funeral. My neice, Ana Lee Solan, was born on Monday, April 11. She lived about 30 minutes. Josh, I'm so sorry to hear of your family's loss. I can't imagine the depth of grief you must feel. SLC is my hometurf and I'm sorry you had to visit it under such tragic circumstances. I miss the mountains so much and reading your desciption of them reminded me why. The Wasatch front is oriented such that the mountains seem to reach down to embrace the valley below. There's a real sense of serenity and communion with nature for me when the topography is such a physical presence. I always feel an enormous sense of relief when I visit home, feeling the mountains around me anchoring me somehow and embracing me with protection and comfort. I hope in some small way your family will feel that same protection and comfort knowing that your precious niece is guarded by the quiet strength of those mountains, seasonless sentinels beneath an endless western sky. --Saya
