Awww, it was nice to read this all in one get-go. I know you wrestled with this like a 500 lb grizzly bear. It's tough to write a good John characterization let alone one fraught with extreme bouts of emotion that feel real. And throughout were rare touches of humor, the Jackson jokes, John's wit and his "Beautiful Mind" reference.

One of the most touching scenes was the birth of someone’s son, short as it was, and I loved the nuance of regret it brought out of John. The scene with Carson was touching, John understanding that emotions and life experiences are what make a person and Carson has all of those.

“You have his soul. As far as I’m concerned, a friend was miraculously resurrected and all I can do is be thankful for it.”

Lovely story my dear and a different type of story against the backdrop of so many.

Ah, D. You are still the bestest cheerleader :) Thank you for the comments about Allora. The details were important to me: I wanted each personality to come through but had just flashes to work with. And the Carson scene was my favorite :) thank you!!

Lovely story!! I really enjoyed the look into John's reaction to not being able to control himself and how he dealt with that.

Nicely done! :)

Thank you! That lack of control was tough to work with, and I'm happy to hear you enjoyed the story.

Yeah, so here I am, just 6 months after you posted... :)

Terrific story, E. You did a tremendous job of creating OCs that existed only for a few lines, but that I cared about. John was completely in character, dealing with an unknown "injury" and foreign emotions that hit him unexpectedly and publicly. Great job!
