Hi! I'm the person with the Audrey/Cooper DYW letter you commented on. Also the person who wrote "Audrey at the Great Northern." I would very much like to add you as an LJ friend now. :D

Here via Astolat--thank you for this post! I will definitely point people here myself--Twin Peaks is still one of my top three shows ever. Time for a rewatch!

I loved this rundown! Very interesting to compare it to my boyfriend's (huge Lynch fan) when he convinced me to watch the show.

Cooper reminded me a lot of Due South's Fraser when I watched. Obviously there are differences, but I feel they have a similar vibe/fan-attraction.

I have many ~issues with Twin Peaks (and think if you watch other Lynch stuff his problematic themes become more and more obvious), but I do agree it's some damn good tv.

Thanks! I'd actually never seen any of Lynch's work before I watched Twin Peaks, so I didn't have any context for the type of films he usually makes. After finishing the series, I went out and watched Blue Velvet- which felt like a trial run for Twin Peaks in a lot of ways- and Dune, which is an adaptation, so it didn't really feel like his other stuff. I did notice that he seems to have some issues with the portrayal; of women- a LOT of them seem to end up sexually victimized. I liked Twin Peaks because it developed Laura beyond the stock woman-in-the-fridge character she would have been, but it gets old when he does it over and over and over . . .

(I haven't watched Due South, but I do know Paul Gross from Slings&Arrows, and I can see how he'd play that type of character- he has the right look for it.)

I don't know! D: It's hard to meet people when fandom is so quiet and inactive.

OMG BOB! BOB still terrifies me when I watch the show and if I had people on my flist who had BOB icons, I would have to either filter them out or defriend them because he makes me jumpy and uncomfortable. GAH!

I will always love Twin Peaks for being the first show that I felt fannish about - but it was the early 90s and there was no internet for me, so I ended up doing tv shows analyzing the episodes for my university's tv station with friends.

I will probably always adore Audrey more than any other tv character, and still have the sweater and saddle shoes I wore when I went as her for Halloween back in 1990.

Lovely summary!

BOB is TERRIFYING. I went in already spoiled for the circumstances of Laura's death, and he still freaks me the fuck out. The scene where he creeps up on Maddy will never not be scary.

I'm still kind of sad that Twin Peaks was pre-Internet, because can you imagine the fandom? It would have been glorious. I mean, I enjoy smaller fandoms, because it usually means people are closer and there's less wank, but part of me really wants to see it get huge again.

(Jealous! I have a skirt like her's- same style and pattern, though the plaid is red and black instead of green and gold- but I wouldn't know where to look for shoes like that.)
