I damn near forgot about this whole thing. When last I posted, my job in San Fran was drawing to a close. After that I spent about four days with the Taller Brother Smith in "Tha 'Couve". That is the sound of San Francisco Bay. My ship is tied up alongside another identical vessel. Both are empty and riding high such that the tops of the rudders are about a foot out of the water. A pod (?) of sealions has made this area their home. At any given time there will be half a dozen on each rudder. The ships are about six ( Read more... ) -

Eight to FiveIt took a little longer than I would have liked but I am again employed. I have a 30 day relief job on the M/V Cape Hudson, a military-owned cargo ship in "Reserve Operating Status". I've moved, by the way. It's been three weeks and I'm finally getting around to making the official log entry. My place is in the Freret neighborhood close to Tulane. It was a close call, but somehow a powerful urge for mechanized transportation was diverted into the purchase of a nice new bicycle. I was thiiiis close to buying a sweet 1983 Buick Lasaber but the guy wouldn't take my lowball offer. Good thing too, I didn't really have the money to buy another car, but boy I wanted it.
